Tram 369 for sale

Tram No. 369 is for sale - Expressions of Interest have now CLOSED!

Have you ever considered owning your own tram, converting a tram into a business, a school classroom or even into unique accommodation? That dream might now be within reach as we prepare to sell Tram No. 369 from our fleet.

History of Tram No. 369

This H-Type tram was built in 1929 by Pengelley in South Australia for the Municipal Tramways Trust in Adelaide. For more than 77 years, H-Type trams transported thousands of people to Adelaide’s most popular beachside destination at Glenelg. They were known fondly as the ‘red rattler’ to locals. H-Type trams were decommissioned in 2006 as part of a larger State tram upgrade project. Following its decommission in Adelaide, Tram No. 369 made the journey to Bendigo and operated as a Vintage Talking Tram for many years.

Why are we selling Tram No. 369?

Tram No. 369 was decommissioned from our Vintage Talking Tram fleet in 2018 due to an unviable maintenance program. Despite being non-operational, it is a fantastic tram with huge potential, and we’re excited to explore the possibilities of how it could be repurposed to benefit the community.

We’re entering the sale process with open minds; whether you’re an investor, looking at the tram for commercial purposes or a community group with an exciting vision, we’re keen to hear how you could give Tram No. 369 a new lease of life in its retirement.

Repurposing H-Type trams

Several H-Type trams have been successfully repurposed and are now available for public viewing at the St. Kilda Tramways Museum in Adelaide.

Most recently, 369’s sister tram, Tram No. 361, which sat at Wigley Reserve in Glenelg, underwent an expression of interest process and has now made its way to new owners, Mist on Bridgewater in South Australia. The tram will be fully restored and used as a community classroom to learn a variety of subjects such as ‘How to grow your own food’, with classes available for free to anyone. Full details are available here.

Expression of Interest process

  • Expressions of Interest have now CLOSED.
  • Applicants will be notified about the outcome of the sale by Friday 1 September 2023.
