Bendigo Tramways is a living piece of history that has been entwined with the city's identity since 1890
No other Australian city which closed its tramway system left track, trams and a depot behind in the manner that Bendigo did.
Our Depot is now the oldest operating tram depot in Australia and we operate the best working collection of heritage trams in the world.
We are renowned for our ability to restore heritage trams and our fleet of Vintage Talking Trams are a testament to this.
Whether enjoying a Vintage Talking Tram Tour, the Anzac Centenary Tram or a guided group tour of our Depot & Workshop, a visit to Bendigo Tramways drives home the significance of how Bendigo has developed as a city, and the role that Bendigo Tramways has played in that development.
We received the Museums Australia (Victoria) Award for Medium Museums
The judges were impressed with our crowdfunding campaign to restore Tram No. 7, commenting "How much fun is this? The crowdfunding video says it all, and most importantly shows just how much fun the team at Bendigo Tramways had doing it. Proactive, brave and inclusive – they took a risk with crowdfunding, embraced the technology and utilised social media to get the community on board. It all works, demonstrating that a strong vision, good planning and great storytelling is a winning formula." Check out the campaign to save Tram No. 7.
