Dear-UnaSoldiers Memorial Institute Military Museum Presents: First World War Postcards to Una of Harcourt

This exhibition presents a group of postcards sent by Australian soldiers serving in the First World War. They were received by schoolgirl, Una Frankling of Harcourt, from men who had lived nearby or had strong links with the Harcourt area.

The postcards map their journeys from Broadmeadows Camp, to South Africa, Egypt and Europe. Cards depicting local landmarks in England were penned during times of convalescence and leave from the front.

Feelings of homesickness and despair are conveyed, as well as humour and observations of local customs. Several of the cards are silk with embroidered patriotic messages.
