Bendigo Joss House - Emu Point - On-line Tour
Updated: 08 August 2008

When you arrive at the North Bendigo Tram Terminus (located at Emu Point) you will be a 3 minute walk from the only surviving example of 19th century Chinese architecture in Bendigo - the Joss House. Alight from the Vintage Talking Tram and make your way towards the Joss House which is across the railway line.
Stroll along the pathway, view the interpretative signs and learn about this historic precinct as you make your way towards the Joss House entrance.
On reaching the end of the path, turn left and walk towards the beautifully restored Joss House with its imposing picket fence. Walk through the welcoming open gates and be greeted by the peacefulness of one of Bendigo's oldest places of worship.
Walk left towards the Caretaker's Residence where you will be introduced to the Joss House complex. Our helpful staff will provide you with information about the Joss House and happily answer any questions. Inside you will not only visit the main temple but also the ancestral temple. You may be surprised to learn that the Joss House is still a place of worship.
After your visit make your way back along the path towards the Emu Point tram terminus - where you will see the Talking Tram waiting for you. As you walk towards the tram, learn more about the influence of Bendigo's pioneer Chinese community in the North Bendigo and White Hills areas, and the Bendigo district.
All visitors are welcome at the Joss House, so make a point of spending some quality time here.
