Hobart Brill 21E Trucks

9th August 2007 - Truck:

 

The Hobart truck is almost complete with the fitting of the second motor and some minor adjustments to the truck to be under-taken.

 

 

18th July 2007 - Truck:

 

Top chords have been fitted, with second motor being the remaining major component to be fitted.

 

 

28th June 2007 - Truck:

 

By this date, the assembly of the "the newest Brill 21E (design) truck in the world" was nearing completion.  The images below not only depict the near-assembled truck, but also provide close-up views of some of the major components.

 

 

June 2007 - Truck:

 

Complete assembly of the truck comes closer with the manufacture of the top chords.  These and all other components (including the motors) will be fitted within the next few days.

 

 

May 2007 - Truck:

 

The truck is nearing completion with the truck frame and rigging being fitted.  Additional work to be undertaken includes; the fitting of the gears, motor suspension bars, motors and other associated equipment.

 

 

 

January 2007 - Wheel Sets:

 

New caste-steel wheels have been fitted to the axles of the City of Hobart Brill 21E truck.  These wheels have been manufactured to railways profile standard, hence the unusual thickness of the tyres. Design-work, pattern making and manufacturing have been undertaken and facilitated by Bendigo Tram Heritage Rail Workshop.

 

 

 

November 2007 -Side-frames and Gears:

 

The building of 1 X 7 feet 6 inch wheel-based Brill 21E trucks for the City of Hobart is under way.  Currently, new cast-steel wheels are being fitted to the axles, with the other major components now on hand ready for assembly.

 


 

Tenders are invited for the purchase of manufactured Brill 21E Trucks.  These trucks vary in wheel base length and can be altered to suit customer requirements and specifications.

 

1903 Brill 21E truck - these and later variations of the Brill 21E are available for tender.
