Restoration of TBT #25

Updated: 25 September 2008

25th September 2008

The tram has been relocated to the eastern side of the shed.  The application of line-work and lettering has been completed.  Of interest are some comparison images of the new line-work with the original line-work which was hand-painted in 1972 and 'touched-up' in the late 1990s.

2nd September 2008

Painting of #25 in the corporate livery of The Bendigo Trust was completed.  During its refit and repaint, the tram was located at the bottom of 5 road.  In the images below, we see the tram in place prior to being moved to #2 road for the application of sign and line-work and the completion of fitting out.

July-August 2008

The first coat of The Bendigo Trust corporate livery has been applied.

Late June 2008

The recent re-fitting and replacement of the leather internal fittings means that the tram will be capable of carrying capacity loads once again when the need arises.

Mid June 2008

The re-fitting of the internal fittings and furniture is nearing completion.  The drop-center seating looks a treat and is set to provide many more years of service.

Early June 2008

Master craftsman George Sterling has been in action fitting the driver's cabin doors to #25.  Here we see George in action as the modifications to the cabin bulkheads receive his attention.  As well, the first coats of varnish are in the process of being applied as are the first coats of the interior livery.

Late May 2008

With the under-coating of the tram now complete the first coat of The Bendigo Trust livery is now being applied!  As well, the last of the brass fittings have been burnished and take on the appearance of gold.

Mid-May 2008

Under-coating of the tram is nearing completion.  The grey under-coat is reminiscent of the tram's original Hawthorn Tramways Trust livery of 90 years ago!

23rd April 2008

While the tram is under-going refurbishment the opportunity has been taken to install doors in each of the driver's bulkheads.

April 2008

Work on the re-sealing of the tram roof has been completed.  As well, refurbishment of the tram is well on the way as indicated by the other images below.

March 2008

The trucks of #25 have been completely overhauled, moved back beneath the tram and the tram has been lowered onto the refurbished trucks.  Work continues on the refurbishing of the tram body.

February 2008

Since December 2007 work has been progressing on the overhaul of Bendigo #25.  In some of these views, we see #25 in its earlier life in both Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board and State Electricity Commission of Victoria liveries.
